The Ultimate Guide to: Undertones

Knowing your skins undertone can help you decide various things from the perfect foundation to which colour jewellery suits you best; there are many tests you can take to figure out your undertone and you’ll be happy to know they are all free and easy to do! Before doing that, you need to understand the undertone categories:

  • Cool (pink, red, bluish undertones)
  • Warm (yellow, or golden undertones)
  • Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)

Olive is known as a fourth undertone but it is also considered as neutral because of its cool and warm undertones.
Test 1 – The Vein Test

This is the easiest way to identity your undertone! Check the inside of your forearm, this is where your veins show up the most. If your veins are blue then you have a cool undertone, if they look green then you have a warm undertone. If you can’t tell which colour it is then you are neutral.
Test 2 – The Silver and Gold Test

This one is really simple. Think about the jewellery you wear, if you look good in Silver then you probably have a cool undertone. If you look better in Gold then you have a warm undertone. If you think you look good in both then you have a neutral undertone
Test 3 – White Cloth Test

This one is the decider. Put a white fabric next to your bare face and see what cast your skin takes on. If you have a warm undertone then your skin will appear yellowish, if you had a cool undertone then your skin will seem more pinkish/blueish. If you see a bit of everything then you have a neutral undertone
